BA HONS Fine Art

Personal Statement

I am a contemporary artist living and working in Shrewsbury, Shropshire.

My work is an expression of a vibrant and colourful world with strong influences from my travels. Using mainly acrylics, I represent what I see in a fresh and modern way, painting predominantly landscapes although my work ranges from the very figurative to the completely abstract. It is a pure enjoyment of colour and the brilliant landscapes around us, with the occasional personal challenge thrown in to keep me on my toes. It has changed and developed well in the time I have been exhibiting. More than anything I like to see where it's going next, pushing myself to try new things.

I followed the art route through school and sixth form college as I showed promise in that field. I then undertook an Art Foundation course in Wrexham before heading to the University of the West of England, Bristol, to complete a degree in Fine Art.  I graduated in 2003 with a BA Hons degree.

When I finished my degree, I took advantage of a natural lull and spent a year travelling the world.  Since then, I have been exhibiting locally in bars and restaurants.  During the last two years I have had my work in a few galleries around Shropshire including a large solo exhibition at Shrewsbury's Gallery3 at the Gateway Arts and Education Centre.

I hope to continue exhibiting and gradually taking my work further afield.
